Press Release
The Sidney Center Improvement Group (SCIG) will be holding the first annual Community Cleanup Day for the Hamlet of Sidney Center. The event will be held on Sunday, August 5th from 1:00-5:00pm starting at the Fire Hall on Main Street. Following the event, SCIG will host a BBQ for all volunteers from 5:00-6:00pm at the Maywood Historical Train Depot. To finish off the day, the Maywood Historical Society will hold it's weekly Ice Cream Social from 6:00-8:00pm.

The Cleanup event will consist of canvasing the Hamlet on foot for general trash and debris. Volunteers will also scour small portions of the two streams which run through the Hamlet; Carr's Creek and Willow Brook, to remove any light debris that has been washed downstream as a result of previous flooding events. SCIG is calling on anyone wishing to give back to the community and contribute to a great cause, to please join us.

SCIG appreciates the support the community has given with previous beautification projects and events such as the flower barrels outfitted with hand painted decorative bugs, welcome flags hanging throughout the hamlet, and the growing annual Tractor Parade. The Cleanup event will also support SCIG's water quality initiatives and the grant SCIG received last year from the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation to create a plan for how to better deal with future flooding and care for our water long-term.

The Sidney Center Improvement Group, Inc. is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization created to promote community beautification and improvement projects as well as a better understanding and appreciation for our environment. SCIG holds events throughout the year to accomplish this goal and is always welcome to fresh faces and new ideas. SCIG's monthly general meeting is held on the second Tuesday of every month at 6:30pm at the Sidney Center Library. For more information please visit SCIG at www.SCIGNY.org or on facebook.
